What you can approve or deny

The Macquarie Authenticator app (Authenticator app) sends actionable push notifications to your device, asking you to approve or deny transactions or account changes. It puts you in control so you can review transaction details like account, payee, and payment details upfront, so you can authorise transactions and account changes before they happen and know exactly what you’re approving.

For example, you may receive notifications asking you to:

  • Authorise a change of password
  • Verify log in
  • Downgrade your security settings. You're not required to authenticate when you upgrade your security setting from Enhanced to Ultimate.

What's a push notification?

An actionable push notification is a banner that slides into view on your mobile device with a direct link to the Authenticator app. You’ll see information about the account activity so you can feel confident to approve or decline. This is our recommended method as it’s fast and very secure. You’ll need to have notifications enabled on your device to receive actionable push notifications.

How to approve or deny

  1. To use Authenticator, you must enable push notifications. On your phone, you’ll receive a push notification pending your approval
  2. Select the push notification or open the Authenticator app on your device
  1. Log in using your pin or biometrics (face or fingerprint)
  1. Any pending approvals will also appear under Tasks in the bottom left corner
  1. Select the request or payment you’d like to review from the list of tasks
  2. Review the request or payment to ensure you know exactly what you are approving/ denying
  3. Select ‘Approve’ or ‘Deny’ buttons at the bottom of the screen.

Received a push notification you don’t recognise?

In all likelihood you should not be receiving a push notification that you or your financial adviser did not action. However, this could occur in scenarios such as:

  • Clicking resend verification and receiving a delayed push notification due to slow network connectivity
  • A transaction that is suspected to be fraudulent.

If you received a push notification that is suspected to be fraudulent, you should deny the action immediately to stop the action from completing. You should then immediately change your password and call us to report the incident.

  1. Click Deny on the push notification
  2. Click Change password
  3. Follow the change password prompts
  4. Call us on 1800 099 265 (Overseas +612 5501 1743), to report the suspected fraudulent transaction

Didn’t receive a push notification?

You may not be able to verify a transaction or activity with a push notification if you:

  • can’t access the internet or have limited mobile reception
  • haven’t enabled push notifications on your device
  • have enabled the ‘Do not disturb’ function or scheduled to receive notifications during certain times of the day on your device
  • have enabled "Offload unused apps" (iOS) or "Automatically archive app" (Android 15) enabled.

If this happens, please check that you have notifications enabled for the app and try again by clicking on Resend verification.

To enable device notifications for the Authenticator app:

  1. On your device, select Settings
  2. Select Notifications under your device settings
  3. Select the Authenticator app
  4. Toggle on Allow notifications.

If you have previously registered your Access Code for Authenticator but did not enable push notifications as part of the registration process, please ensure you select Enable on the Tasks page of Authenticator to finalise the set up.

Do not disturb mode

If you’ve enabled the ‘Do not disturb’ function or scheduled to receive notifications during certain times of the day, ensure the Authenticator app is allowed to send notifications during these times.

On Android:

  1. On your device, select Settings
  2. Select Notifications under your device settings
  3. Select Do not disturb under your notification settings
  4. Select App notifications and add Macquarie Authenticator to allow notifications during the ‘Do not disturb’ scheduled times.

On iOS:

  1. On your device, select Settings
  2. Select Notifications under your device settings
  3. In Scheduled Summary, if you have scheduled certain times of the day to receive notifications, in the Apps in summary list switch Authenticator to the ‘off’ position.

Automatic Offloading/Archiving of apps

To disable this setting, follow the steps below.

On Android:

  1. On your device, open the Google Play Store app
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap General
  5. Scroll down to Automatically archive apps
  6. Set to disable (consider manually disabling and archiving apps you no longer use)

On iOS:

  1. On your device, select Settings
  2. Select App Store
  3. Scroll down to Offload Unused Apps
  4. Set to disable (consider manually disabling and archiving apps you no longer use)

If you’re still unable to receive a push notification, try checking the Tasks tab in the Authenticator app:

  1. Login to the Authenticator app
  2. Click Tasks on the bottom
  3. Click on the action awaiting your approval.

Don’t have internet access?

You can use the codes in the Authenticator app to verify transactions or requests when you’re offline. Please note you can only use codes to approve requests which you initiate for yourself. You won’t be unable to use codes to provide consent for an adviser-initiated request.

If your Authenticator app is completely unavailable (lost your phone?), for security reasons, give us a call on 1800 099 265 (Overseas +612 5501 1743).
